Department of Electrical Inspectorate
Electrical Inspectorate is a Department of the Government of Kerala.
It was formed by the Government order vide G.O.(Ms) No. 28 / 68 / PW.Dated 20.10.1968

The Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of Kerala
is the Head of the Department.
The Department has district offices in all the Districts
Two Boards namely

Kerala State Electricity Licensing Board
Board of Examiners for Cinema Operators Examination
are functioning under this department

Meter Testing and Standards Laboratory
is also functioning under the Department
offering calibration and testing facilities for various electrical equipments and meters
It is functioning near College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram
There are Nine Electrical Testing Laboratories at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Mallappuram, Palakkad and Kannur

Constitution of the Board

As per Rule 45(1) of Indian Electricity Rule 1956, No electrical installation work including additions, alterations, repairs, adjustments to existing installations except such replacement of lamps, fans, fuses, switches, Low voltage domestic appliances and fittings as in no way alters its capacity or Character shall be carried out upon the premises of or on behalf of any (Consumer, Owner or Occupier) for the purpose of supply to such consumer or owner, except by an Electrical Contractor licensed in this behalf by the State Government and under the direct supervision of a person holding a permit issued or recognized by the State Government.

The Board consists of

Secretary to Government (Power ) as President
Deputy Chief Electrical Inspector as a Member Secretary
Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of Kerala
Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, Trivandrum or Thrissur
Representative of K.S.E.Board.
A Member of Legislature
A representative of Major consumers of Electricity in the State
Two Representative of licensed Electrical Contractors in the State
one each for ‘A’ Class and ’B’ Class Contractors
